My question is one of religion. In my research, I've read conflicting information and was hoping that some more experienced members of the Lodge could help clarify things for me.
I'm a 3rd Degree High Priest of Celtic Wicca. In my belief system, Deity is split into two polarities, Male and Female, as opposed to a single supreme entity.
From what I've read, Masonry requires a belief in a single supreme entity.
Would my pantheistic beliefs disqualify me for acceptance into the Lodge?
I don't want to start a large religious or philosophical debate... I would just like to get an answer or two from a few qualified sources.
Thank You. | |

However, Freemasonry is not without it's radical side either and some of those believe that you have to have a belief in a single supreme entity. Heck I was even told initially that you had to believe in the resurrection of the body, which I later found out to be untrue.
No one entity, lodge or GL speaks for Freemasonry as a whole, even though many feel they do and try to control the minds of their flock, for lack of a better term. There are Atheist who are Freemasons, even Benjamin Franklin considered himself a Deist during the majority of his life after leaving Boston when he was 17. His primary goal in leaving, other than a disagreement with his blood brother and father, was to find a town that was more tolerant of free thinkers. Which is one of the reasons he considered Philly his home, thank goodness he did or things could have been quite different for us now.

As far as your specific situation, it seems that you consider deity as a monolithic force with 2 polarities. That seems perfectly acceptable to me, and I would see no problem with that belief system.

I've read (and been told) differing things about this issue and wanted to clarify before making an application. It's good to hear from people who are giving answers which are not based on emotion or personal adherences to belief systems.
Thanks Again. | |

As a Mason for 33 years...and as a Christian pastor, I applaud your interest and your gentle manner. The ancient landmarks require a belief in a supreme being. Pantheism should not be a barrier to your quest for Masonic light. That is my interpretation. You may want to visit with a brother in the state or province where you reside. It is always good to make local connections. They will be of limitless value to you as you proceed. I hope that is helpful information.

I've made contact with some Lodge members, and they've been quite helpful as well. I'm very hopeful that I will be accepted into the Lodge. From what I've seen here and from talking to your Brothers, it seems to be a very good organisation.
Thanks again. | |

I think you will be very pleased. I hope that the lodge you join appreciates your alternate points of view. I would love to have you in my lodge! Diversity is great thing!
