I bounce between California, Colorado, Utah, and Wyoming right now...I run my own business, I fly my own little Piper, I was doing some geneology and found out my great grand father was a Mason. I found this site among others and thought it might be a nice place to jump into learning about this group and what is required for membership.

Sounds like a fun job.
Here is what is required for membership to a blue lodge:
1. Be a man- dosen't sound like a problem there.
2. Be over 21 - in the state of Illinois anyway I have heard that other states vary the age requirement.
3. Not be convicted of a felony- we don't want less than honerable members.
4. And this is the important one- profess a belief in a supreme being, dosen't matter if you are Buddist, Muslim, Christian, or what have you. Just that you believe in A god.
I have recently become a Mason myself and am so glad I did. I have discovered a new family of millions of brothers all over the world who have the same positive mindset that I have been searching for.
- If you want to be great , surround yourself with greatness-
Cheers
CM Bryant

Actually, Brother Bryant is speaking, for the most part, about Antient Masonry. Let me break them down some, with a little additional information. Quote: | Originally Posted by Lucius Hey Joe-

Many masonic organizations are male only, but not all. I suggest you do some research here. Quote: | Originally Posted by Lucius

Yes, different states age limits vary but also by system also. When I say "system" I'm referring to what group you belong to. Typically you are either an Antient Mason or a Modern Mason. Quote: | Originally Posted by Lucius

Yes this is a requirement but I can speak from first hand experience, this is not the case. Our West gate has been open waaaayyy toooo long. The night I was made an EA one of the brothers there was wearing an ankle bracelet. So again research do your homework and find out about the brothers where you are joining. Oh boy this one really gets me. I've seen even District Lectures who say the same thing. This cannot be farther from the truth, again it depends on which system you join and the brothers in your lodge.
