Smile Greetings from Southwest Texas

Hello everyone.

I'm not actually a Mason. My father and paternal grandfather are both Masons, Shriners, and Scottish Rite. My paternal grandmother was an Eastern Star, and I'm thinking of joining, but first I'd like to get to know more about it and the adjoining communities.

I never really thought much about Shriners and Masons. I just thought it was a nice club for old men (the men at my father's lodge were all at least 20 years older than him). But going through life with a broad mind has helped me to gain a clearer understanding of the world, and what really piqued my interest was The Da Vinci Code. It was so involved with the Knights Templar, and my father's a Knight Templar, and he really liked the movie and hasn't rebutted anything, so I'm wondering how much of the myth is true. I really didn't think about the Masons being connected to it until one day while sitting in the den meditating on the image of the compass and ruler, when I realized that they look like the classic "blade" and "chalice" as referred to in the movie. It made me even further wonder how much of the myth is true. Maybe, maybe not.

But regardless of the myth, I am interested in finding a nice community of spiritually understanding people. Pleased to meet you all
