Deep in the heart of Texas

Hello Brothers,

I am an Entered Apprentice Mason, and I reside in San Antonio, TX. I love being a Mason and am looking forward to talking to you all. I love what I see here in this web page and am very lucky I found it. A little about myself I am and Engineering Technician and eight year veteran of the USMC with multiple combat tours. I served as a heavy machine gunner in a Combined Anti Armor PLT. Well Brothers if you have any Questions feel free to ask.

Thanks
Bro. Lugo

Re: Deep in the heart of Texas

Welcome Brother Lugo... I never saw combat up close like you, I was in the AF on the C-141B, so I spent most of my time either in the Air or drinking meter beer in Germany ..

I love all the posters that come out during war times. I remember two in particular. One had an Army guy sitting on his helmet in the desert eating an MRE with a caption "MRE, this sucks". The counter was an AF guy sitting on a bed with a remote control pointing at the TV that said "No HBO, this sucks"...

I do have a question for you though, being a fellow war time armed forces Brother, what do you think GLs should do about charting military lodges in the desert?

Re: Deep in the heart of Texas

Honestly, I think it would be very hard to do. The area of operation is highly dangerous. When you are out there you really do not have much time to do anything. Although, it is a great idea to keep the Brothers involved. You may run in to some people who might criticize what you are a part of. Because you have to remember you live in very tight quarters and there is virtually no room for privacy. You have to ask yourself this? If you are in lodge and a superior officer wants entry in to your area and he is not a fellow Mason. What is a tyler to do when he is a lower ranking individual. This is just my honest opinion. let me know what you think I would love to hear your take on this.

Sincerely
Bro. Lugo

Re: Deep in the heart of Texas

Well things were probably different years ago as there were quite a few high ranking individuals that were Masons. It would only take one General to be a Mason (which I'm sure there probably is) to squash any resistance from the lower officers. I could see the privacy issue though being a problem. I assumed somewhere in the Green Zone there would be a room that could be used on an as needed basis. Remember too lodges can be opened outside, inside doesn't matter as long as they are tiled.

I cannot say for sure, especially since I'm not there myself but I would like to think that having a lodge for Brothers to meet would be a welcome distraction from the daily (dangerous) grind that goes on there.
