The raising started at dusk dark and outsite but the site was what made it interesting. It was held in Fort Gains on Dauphin Island near Mobile, AL. Today was the first time in history a mason lodge was opened anywhere on Dauphin Island much less in the historic site of Fort Gains.
The day started early with the Civil War Lodge of Research #1865 from Virginia opening the day at 10:00 am holding a lodge meeting and discussing many topics involving the history of Freemasonry. Early afternoon there were two public presentations; Bro. Bob Houston, Professor of Military History at U. of S. A. discussed the Battle of Mobile Bay and Bro. Wayne Sirmon discussed the Army Lodges of Alabama. To cap off the day was the main event, the raising of a Master Mason by McCormick-Mobile Lodge #40, but not before some good food was served.
On a personal note, I was proud to participate as part of the team performing the raising on this historic day. It will go down in my scrap book of memories and I sure won't forget to bring a jacket next time as it does get cold after dark that close to the water.

I've followed Bob here from The Three Pillars.com I just wanted to let y'all know how much I was trying to get down there, but I had prior committments and couldn't make it.
Keep up the good work. Are you planning to make it an annual event?

Unfortunately, because we are living in the past, a Brother like me(Black, Prince Hall) wouldn't be able to participate in an event like that. We need to get it together.
