Is the Grand Orient de France Really Progressive?
Sep 05, 2008 - 9:12 PM - by D. W. Brown
Is the Grand Orient de France really progressive? Maybe not as much as we thought, because if you attended this years conference you would have seen 60% of the 1,200 Masons in attendance vote to keep women out of GOdF lodges. The vote was brought before the conference of Brothers by out-going Grand Master Jean-Michel Quillardet, a very progressive Mason.

Lodges within the GOdF this year raised women as Masons against the wishes of the GOdf and since the vote was ratified, they have since been suspended pending appeals. Let's all hope for next years conference to finally see the demise of these last veils of separatism.

European Grand Orients are not alone in the separatism of genders, the Grand Orient USA also holds to this belief. As with racism in U. S. mainstream lodges it is only a matter of time before we finally show the leadership once bestowed upon us and do the right thing and tear down these barriers between what we hold so dear, HUMANS.

Antient Masons in Salem MA Take to TV to Bolster Membership
Sep 01, 2008 - 11:22 AM - by D. W. Brown
The residents of Salem MA have never been as shocked, since the witch hunts, as they have been recently with the new recruitment strategy of the Antient Masons. Seems Antient lodges, in conjunction with the Scottish Rite, have created a TV commercial recruitment campaign to bolster their dwindling numbers.

Personally for this editor, the concern I have with this is the continued use of Benjamin Franklin's good name to promote the Antient system. The commercials supposedly have someone portraying Brother Benny in them when the facts show that the Antient system did not even recognize him enough to give him a proper Masonic funeral. What else is new though as they (I am a member of the Antients too) also use George Washington, who was not an Antient Mason in much of their propaganda material too.

North Carolina Installs First Black AF&AM Lodge Master
Aug 27, 2008 - 10:52 PM - by D. W. Brown
Many North Carolina Masons are probably not even aware, we weren't, that on Saturday, January 5, 2008 Nigeria-born, Canada-raised Dr. Joseph Adegboyega began his year as the first black Master of a North Carolina AF&AM lodge in history.

Worshipful Brother Joseph was born December 21, 1951, in Lagos, Nigeria, son of Raphael and Esther Adegboyega. He is the great grandson of King Jimekun of Ondo, of the Osamawe royal family. This family is directly descended from Oduduwa, ruler of the extinct Yoruba empire which once governed a large portion of West Africa.

He was raised in Mount Moriah in Ontario November 17, 1997. In 2000 the Grand Lodge AF&AM of Canada awarded him a Fellowship of the College of Freemasonry.

Worshipful Brother Adegboyega has a philosophical and open attitude toward racial issues. His grandfather had slaves; his mother is a descendant of slaves. “I keep the past in the past. For now, every Nigerian is equal. I look forward to this new status, feeling free of mental enslavement and ready to love and work as a good Freemason, with my brothers here and beyond.”
