Re: Some thoughts from an EA

Here in West Va I've taken 2 months learning the 1st degree and 2 weeks to learn the 2nd. The 2 are very similiar in wording but the 2nd is a lot shorter. I'm scheduled to be raised on 4/5/08.

Re: Some thoughts from an EA

I don't know if the first three degrees should take a year o 3 months. I mean if you can't attend a "meeting" unless your a master mason. that is a year that you are paying dues etc and not participating in masonry. I am all about balance. I also am a pragmatist. My father who is a mason can't go to the lodge unless I drive him. (has brain damage). it would make more sense that I as a mason be a master mason and attend with him instead of being a chauffer for a year. I think some people may need a year but some people don't. case by case thing I think

Re: Some thoughts from an EA

our lodge opens and does business <for the most part> in the degree of the lowest man. so i was almost always allowed to attend lodge. We also do not pay dues until we are MM.

i could easily be ready to give this FC lesson in a couple of weeks, but i am taking the time to disect the language of the lesson and the lectures. i am finding there is a lot in there that could easily be missed if one just did the memorization and moved on.

Re: Some thoughts from an EA

Most lodges perform their "stated" (Business) meetings on the Master Mason degree. Military traveling lodges (I am in Iraq), perform their stated meetings on the Entered Apprentice degree, so that the maximum number of Masons can attend.

If you are in Oklahoma (Tulsa?), it should not take a year for you to complete the degrees of symbolic masonry. Most states require only a month between the degrees. Check with your lodge secretary, and find out the case in your lodge.

I have visited lodges all over the USA (11 states), and none of them require a year to complete the degrees of Craft Masonry.
