Tonight I attended my 1st Lodge meeting since being initiated 12/22/07. A Lodge in the next town over was having an initiation. I got to go watch what I went through last month.
It would be nice if I could go to my own Lodge but if I do I'd have to sit outside and bug the the Tyler.

Do the Grand Lodges in the U.S. bother themselves with such matters? I can't see why they should. If they do, do you have any idea what their reasoning is?

My lodge opens all business meetings in the EA degree. It has worked for us. I think the biggest benefit is that it encourages newly innitiated brothers to become more active members.

My mother lodge in montreal always opens in 1st degree and except for very few times we never get to do any 3rd degree work. There are pros and cons on this. I feel that by opening in 3rd it brings in more mystic in the whole process and encourages the younger brethren in acceleratiing their masonic career. It also would help performing a near perfect work so we don't get embarrased in front of visitors from other provinces or states (sometimes oversees).
Openning in first degree is also very fun and gets everyone involved but unfortunately, most young brethren stop showing up as soon as they get raised to 3rd

If we have a young guy who's just been made an EA, and he feels strongly enough about masonry to attend lodge regularly, by golly we aren't going to tell him to leave.
Unfortunately, this hasn't really been a problem for us. We might raise a couple of masons a year.

You walk in nothing and if you pay enough you walk out a Shriner.
They plan on doing away with these when GL meets in March.
The lodges that used the classes didn't have to worry about what degree to open on. I think that getting rid of the classes is a good thing. I also think that opening on the degree of the newest man is the only way to go.

I had heard that getting rid of the one day classes was going to be a Grand Master's Edict, meaning that it would only be in effect for a year.
Anyway, I'll believe it when I see it. I think learning the degrees is the only way to become a Mason, but the money is probably what's going to rule.
