Hi all,
There is a long running discussion going in my mother lodge about whether the thumb should be up or down during opening prayer and the closing "f,f,fid".
We currently are instructed to have the thumbs down during the final s of fid. This confuses many of us.
I hope my question is clear??
What are your thoughts? thumbs up or down and when?
Please feel free to pm me if you wish-i realise it may be difficult to discuss this in the open.

Freemasonry is in crisis, men and women are dying in Iraq, there is a major cash crisis throughout the western world. Is this worth a thread on a Forum? I suspect that the real debates, the important debates take place on Forums like this one which encourages a vigorous exchange of views across ALL jurisdictions. Surely that one is out of steam.
Now, if I am being unfair, then please tell me, I can take it, and I will apologise. But, help me out here. Where should his thumb be Brethren, up or down?

Funnily enough, while at Lodge last night, I paid particular attention to this during our opening. Most of the bretheren had their thumb down, though a few had it up.
I believe that during the "opening", the thumb should be down.
In our MoR, the AoR has the thumb "down".
Therefore, SoF , thumb should be "UP"
I'm sure you can work all this out.
Hope this clears it up for you.
As there are eavesdroppers, from time to time in these forums, I will not go into detail as the section in my MoR is lengthy.
In a nutshell........
Opening ......down.
All others.....up.
As I have mentioned........."eavesdroppers".....This new area of technology has many uses.
One to spy......others to learn.
One must be guarded.........and personally, too many enquires are being made the "silly way" rather than being asked at the source of origin.
We learn our craft within the Lodge. All enquires suchforth, should be "asked" within the Lodge.
Matters of this nature could be answered within.

Sure the big things need discussion, but sometimes the little things do as well.
Thats the wonderful thing about internet forums. Some sub-forums for the big stuff, some for the small stuff and some for off topic stuff.
