Manly P Hall - 10 Rules

My Brothers,

I had the pleasure of picking up a book from the CA Research Society written by Manly P. Hall last night. It is called Ten Basic Rules for Better Living. He refers to living in the post-industrial civilization. It was written in 1953, but has a great deal of relevance today, so if I may I would like to share those 10 rules. I will not include the 31 pages of explanation (so this will be much shorter than my usual post) in the interest of keeping this short. The book can be found in the library and on Amazon.

1. STOP WORRING - Many things require thoughtful consideration, but worring never helps.
2. STOP TRYING TO DOMINATE OR POSSESS YOUR FRIENDS AND RELATIVES - I read this as never try to teach a pig to sing, it can't be done and irritates the pig.
3. MODERATE AMBITION - Unbounded ambition is like pure power, the intent is almost always corrupted in the process.
4. DON'T ACCUMULATE MORE THAN YOU NEED - It promotes waste and greed, both are unmasonic and unmanly (ok that was a little bit of a pun)
5. LEARN TO RELAX - Tension will kill you and you will have no fun on the ride, enjoy your friends, enjoy your family, enjoy your borthers and enjoy your life.
6. CULTIVE A SENSE OF HUMOR - Laugh and the world will join in, but wear your responsibilities on your face and the world will laugh at you. Either way the world gets a laugh and you might as well enjoy it too.
7. FIND THE REASON FOR YOUR EXISTENCE - Without this your life is reduced to those thing you did today, look to all that is fine, beautiful and purposeful. When you see the beauty on the world, you can't miss the good in yourself.
8. NEVER INTENTIONALLY HARM ANY OTHER PERSON - Neither by word or deed ever return evil for good, or evil for evil. Weed out destructive and hateful thoughts, they are the root of our own misery, they cause us to be miserable and unhealthy.
9. BEWARE OF ANGER - When we let ill-temper control us, we are not able to control ourselves. Use the energy needed to be angry to recover from your mistakes and live in better harmony with the world at large.
10. NEVER BLAME OTHERS FOR OUR OWN MISTAKES - We all make mistakes and unwise selections, make constructive use of the power and abilities you have as your birthright. Others can't hurt us if we keep our inner self strong and growing. Excuses avoid the path of enlightenment, happiness must be earned.

There you have it a piece of advice from a great man and a mason. If you want more on this please get the book and if you can't find it, let me know I may be able to copy it for you.

S&F,

This list just proves the timeliness of Freemasonry. It was written over 50 years ago but it is even more relevant today. In this dog eat dog world, if more men practiced these principles, what a better world we would live in.

Have a great day,

Pat O'Brien

So true. And, if you want your world really rocked, Atlas Shrugged was written over 50 years ago, and look how much of what was written about in the book is actually happening! I'm not an alarmist, but Ayn Rand wasn't too far off the mark...

Make it a great night!

Manly P. Hall, was a master-mason at heart, way before he joined any lodge. Brothers like him are rare, and his teachings still live with us today.

Re: Manly P Hall - 10 Rules

Manly P. Hall could write more books of substance ASLEEP than idiots and Dummies could think up.

Idiots Book author told the History channel the all-seeing eye on the dollar was NOT a Masonic symbol that it was "hog wash".

PLEASE someone ask him why the roof at H.O.T. is an UNFINISHED pyramid??????
